We are delighted to welcome Sophie Keech to our team as a Brand Ambassador. Sophie has been playing golf since she was eight years old and her achievements began when she was just eleven. Now, at just 21 we watch her chase her dream of getting into the top five on the LET Access Series.
We asked Sophie to tell us a little about what she does, where she explained that from April - November she travels and play on the LETaccess series. ‘I’ve always enjoyed travelling and visiting new countries and golf courses. This year, my aim is to earn my full tour card for the LET; to do this I need to finish top 5 in the order of merit.’ She aims to have her first win as a professional as well. Most of the time, she plays at Bridport and West Bay and every two weeks she has a golf lesson with her coach, Karen Nicholls, who she has been seeing since she was 13 years old!
When Sophie is at home, apart from golf, she likes to spend her time in the gym and with her family. As she is travelling a lot, she feels family time is important. On the day of an event, if Sophie has an afternoon tee time she likes to do something in the morning to take her mind off the tournament. ‘This could be going to the gym, shopping or sitting by the pool. I always make sure I get to the golf club with plenty of time so that I can practice before my round.’ She says she always finishes with putting before heading to the tee.
We asked Sophie if she has any special rituals or superstitions before an event, as many golfers seem to, ‘on the way to the course, I like to listen to music and have a sing along (I do have the voice of an angel!!). When practising putting I never use more than 2 balls, and I will never use a number 3 ball.’ We have also heard that she always has to wear odd socks, which we think is a good one.
Sophie has two favourite quotes: ‘A girl should be two things, classy and fabulous’ and ‘The most important shot is the next one’. We like how she has taken inspiration from girly and practical quotes which seems to sum Sophie up. ‘Accept highs and lows, stay focused and keep the faith’ is Sophie's advice she would give to anyone starting out in golf, it’s simple but true.
When Sophie first started playing golf, she always looked up to Tiger Woods, ‘I admired how he won so many Majors and I’ve always got a buzz from watching him play.’ She also has her Grandfather to thank for introducing her to golf from a young age as he was the men’s captain at Lyme Regis Golf Club.
When it comes to our knitwear, Sophie's favourite piece is our Merino Zip Neck in Ocean. She loves that Glenbrae is such great quality. ‘I feel honoured to be an Ambassador for the Glenbrae with them having such a large collection. However, it makes it tough sometimes to choose which to wear!’ We have found this is to be a common issue with our sweaters.
When Sophie is playing golf, she wears our knitwear with trousers or a skirt. ‘I also like to wear the knitwear on my days off so I usually pair them with jeans.’ That’s one of the things we love about our products, they can be transformed from casual into smart by what you choose to coordinate with them.
Made in the UK is important to Sophie as, through a lot of her amateur career, she represented England and it makes her feel proud to support home products.
We wish Sophie all the best for a year of golf ahead of her and we hope she gets the results she is looking for.
