Style of the Month- Merino Polo Shirt

The Polo Shirt is a style we all know and love, but do you know the origin of this ubiquitous style?

In the early 20th Century, the French Grand Slam champion René Lacoste designed a white short-sleeved, loose knit garment to give him more freedom of movement on the tennis court.  Up until that time players had had to endure more formal long-sleeved, buttoned-up shirts made from woven fabrics – not easy to move around in at all.  His design used a fabric construction called pique and was longer at the back than the front – named the tennis tail.

In the 1970’s designer Ralph Lauren brought this style into his Polo line and the Polo Shirt became a mainstream, fashionable item and a wardrobe staple.

The Glenbrae Polo Shirt is made using our advanced seamless technology for a fantastic slim fit that sits beautifully next to skin, to give a more tailored look. In addition to this, each button is hand finished using mother of pearl effect buttons.
